Here is a very sharp trilobite. This is Scabriscutellum sp. from the Devonian of Morocco. This type of trilobite has a rather small cephalon with protruding eyes. The pleurons extend into thin, pointed spines, and the fan-shaped pygidium is quite large! All of these features are well displayed on this specimen. This slightly-contraflexed trilobite is well articulated and preserved in a 3-dimensional manner. The head of the trilobite has been sculpted so that it is somewhat free-standing. The bug has great brown-black coloration and displays beautifully on the sculpted block of dense limestone. This is an attractive display specimen of Scabriscutellum prepared
under a microscope
in the US.
